Coach Stu serves his Community........as a Crofton High School Baseball Coach, a middle school mentor, a family business owner & YOUR DELEGATE!

God. Family. Relationships. Business!

As a proud Believer, a Father, a Husband, High School Baseball & Golf Coach, small family business owner, real estate assoc. broker, I am blessed & honored to serve as one of YOUR Maryland State Delegates in Annapolis!

Meet Coach Stu

Del. Schmidt Represents District 33B

Born two months early at Mercy Hospital in Baltimore City and raised in Glen Burnie by young parents, Stu has deep roots in Anne Arundel County. The son of a utility lineman (Dad) and AACPS teacher assistant (Mom), education was critically important. His plan was to enlist into the National Guard to help pay for college, God had another plan and his path took him to Salisbury University as a FIRST generation college graduate, where Stu paid his own way by working as a resident assistant on campus and then started the college golf team (a sport he knew nothing about & had never played). He received distinct honors: Dean's List, President of Dean's Advisory Council, Top Leader of the Business School, Leadership Symposium, American Marketing Association, Residence Hall Association, Club/Intramural Sports.

He then assisted his brother, Adam (Navy pilot/instructor/professor) and sister, Sara (Healthcare Occupational Therapist) through college and later earned his Master's in Business Adminstration from the University of Baltimore in 2014.

For the past decade, he has proudly called Crofton home, where his family are active members of Crofton Athletic Council, American Legion, Kiwanis, Elks and attend the MACC Church.

"There is no greater reward than listening and learning from the great people in this close-knit local community." - Coach Stu

While he is honored to serve as a public servant, Stu’s most important roles are closer to home. He is a devoted husband to his wife, Michele, and a proud father to their son, Cooper, who he has coached for 14 years and continues to do so today. God & Family is at the center of everything he does.

Before entering public service, Stu built his career in the corporate world at Perdue Farms & Mountaire Farms on the Eastern Shore, he then obtained his Maryland real estate license, started a small business, Schmidt Properties & Investments/Schmidt Home Consultants at Keller Williams Realty (where he met Michele), giving him firsthand experience with the challenges that local families, business LLC's and entrepreneurs face every day—balance sheets, profit & loss statements, budgeting, payroll, etc....... this experience and expertise continues to shape how he serves his community, PEOPLE FIRST!

Open Primaries for Unaffiliated Voters

Protection of the Free Exercise of all Religions

Delegate Schmidt has filed legislation to allow unaffiliated voters to participate in primary elections.

The bill lets voters who are not registered with a political party choose which party’s primary ballot they want to vote in—without being forced to join that party. It also ensures voters do not automatically become affiliated with a political party simply because they voted in a primary.

Protection of the Free Exercise of all Religions

Religious freedom is a fundamental right that deserves strong protection. Delegate Stu Schmidt has filed legislation to ensure individuals can practice their faith without unnecessary government interference.

This bill limits when a government authority can place burdens on a person’s religious beliefs or practices and gives individuals the ability to seek relief if that right is violated.

As a career small business owner, Stu understands what it means to sign the front of a paycheck. He knows the responsibility of protecting employees, supporting their families, and keeping a business running in a challenging economy. Stu supports truly business-friendly policies that provide the right resources and help employers grow—without sacrificing workers or communities.

Affordability for Marylanders especially ENERGY.

Rising costs are squeezing Maryland families, and too many people are being forced to make tough choices just to get by. From housing and energy bills to everyday expenses, prices keep going up while paychecks struggle to keep pace. Stu is focused on policies that lower the cost of living, reduce unnecessary fees and taxes, and make government work better for working families.
